Basic Blackjack Strategy – Reduce the House Edge

When to Stand?

Stand if your hand value is 17 or above regardless of the dealer's card. Also Stand on a hard 12–16 when the dealer shows a 2–6 (as the dealer is likely to bust).

When to Hit?

Request an additional card when your value is 8 or below — impossible to bust. Also Hit on 12–16 when the dealer shows a 7 or higher.

When to Double Down?

Double Down is most effective on a hand value of 10 or 11 — double your bet and receive one card. The odds of drawing a 10-value card are high, making your hand very strong.

When to Split Pairs?

Always Split a pair of Aces and 8s. Don't Split a pair of 10s (a value of 20 is very strong). Consider splitting 9s if the dealer shows 2–6 or 8–9.

Insurance – Should You Take It?

When the dealer shows an Ace, you are offered Insurance worth half your bet. Statistically, not recommended as the house edge on Insurance is extremely high.

Bankroll Management
